Minneapolis based Xcel Energy completed a four-part New Mexico Community Solar project this past week with the installation of a thirteen kilowatt solar array at Leyva Middle School in Carlsbad. The project was initiated back in 2009 to provide education to the public about the benefits of solar generated energy. The Blythe Solar Project in the Mojave Desert is in a legal battle over tortoises. What is slated to be the largest solar array in North America has been held up for months by the presence of four tortoises that happen to live somewhere on the six thousand acres chosen for the installation. Environmentalists have been having a field day with it, late night comedians are poking fun at it, and the solution to the problem was finally approved this week. They are moving the tortoises. It’s a good thing some of the best and brightest minds in renewable energy are working on that job. (more…)

Bella Energy’s very own Jim Welch and Ron Barness have made their way into the Utah press coverage of the new Salt Palace Project. If built today the Salt Palace Convention Center system would be the largest rooftop solar array in the United States.

Boulder, Colorado. Sept. 1, 2010 – Salt Lake County has chosen NexGen Energy and Bella Energy to develop a solar installation on the roof of the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City.
