John was certified in Photovoltaic Design and Installation by Solar Energy International in early 2006 and spent 6 months doing installations of residential and commercial systems. His interest in renewable energy and recycling goes back to his summer job between years at the University of New Hampshire where he was a “reclamation engineer” (aka garbage man). In 1990 he wrote his Senior Marketing Thesis on marketing Methanol as an alternative vehicle fuel. During his college years he took time off to circumnavigated the globe by ship (S.A.S. – Bahamas to Seattle the long way) and spent a month back-packing in WY. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, John up and moved to Japan where he worked as a teacher of ESL for three years. Upon returning to the States he enrolled and earned a graduate certificate in Japanese at Cornell University. In 1997 John and his wife moved to Boulder to start an inbound receptive tour company for Japanese traveling the area. Together they ran that till 2002. After a foray in Hi-Tech sales and as alternative energy became an apparent future force in our country and economy, John dedicated himself to, “learning PV from the roof down,” as he likes to say. John joined the Bella Energy team as employee #9 in 2006.
Colorado Connections: John and his wife honeymooned in Colorado in 1995, and moved here in 1997. John’s Uncle Sam Shaw spent 20 years as a Public Defender in Boulder County. John participates in local sports – tennis, hockey and softball leagues – and has been active in many small business associations. John, his wife and two children — both of whom were born in Boulder County — live in Louisville.
