A Brief History of Bella Energy
- Bella Energy Founder and CEO, Jim Welch, has been a leader in America’s renewable energy industry for 30 years. In 1982, Jim started the company as Remote Power Inc, one of Colorado’s and the nation’s very first companies to sell and install solar electric systems. Remote Power is credited with developing Colorado’s first commercial solar electric utility-scale power system.
- Remote Power continued its solar leadership through the 1990s, managing The Nature Conservancy’s renewable energy program in the United States and Latin America, developing solar home programs in Asia and Africa, and training the first generation of solar engineers in numerous countries around the globe.
- Jim has received numerous awards for his leadership in solar power, including the prestigious national award as a Green Power Pioneer (2004) from the Department of Energy / Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He was honored in 2009 by the Lakota Sioux Tribe for his work with solar air heaters on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
- In 2004, our legacy in solar energy was transformed into Bella Energy. In English, “Beautiful Energy” highlights what the company has become today and what we are growing toward. We are an employee-owned company, creating green jobs and a solar future in your communities.
