Go Solar with Climate Smart!

Climate Smart
Boulder County’s Climate Smart loan program provides an alternative vehicle to fund renewable energy projects for homes and businesses in Boulder. Residents of Boulder can use Climate Smart funding to install solar energy systems on their homes. Unlike most loan programs, a Climate Smart loan is tied your your property and paid through your property taxes. The Climate Smart program is a great way to install solar on your home without the upfront investment.

How do I get started with Climate Smart?

So you’re ready to invest in renewable energy through Climate Smart. Great! Getting started is easier than you might think:

  • Funding your solar energy project with Climate Smart starts with attending a mandatory workshop. These workshops explain the program details and information regarding program deadlines. Visit the Climate Smart website for more information regarding workshop times and locations…
  • Once you’ve decided to use Climate Smart, contact Bella Energy to arrange a site visit. A system designer will visit your home to assess your solar potential and electrical tie-in.
  • Bella Energy will then assemble a bid for your new solar energy system.
  • After receiving your bid you will use the Bid Cover Sheet to fill out a simple online application to initiate the Climate Smart loan process.
  • After your loan has been pre-qualified, you will have a meeting with the loan originator. Make sure you detail out that your are looking for a loan for the Post Rebate Amount of the total project cost. This is the amount after the Xcel Rebate is received but before the Federal Investment Tax Credit is collected.
  • About a month later, you will receive a notice to proceed on the project. Bella Energy will then install your system within the next 180 days.
  • After your system has passed inspection you need to fill out the final documentation and take it to Boulder County. This documentation includes, a Home Owner’s Acknowledgement Form, the Inspection Report, and your Bella Energy Invoice.
  • This concludes the Climate Smart loan process, and you have installed a solar energy system for your home with no upfront cost. Loan repayment begins when your property taxes are due.

If this process sounds daunting, you need not fear. Our solar energy experts and system designers will work with you step by step to ensure a great solar experience and a top notch installation.
