Completed in mid 2011, Bella Energy provided the turnkey installation and financial consulting for a Sun Edison PPA with the City of Broomfield. The project is located at two sites; providing 189 kW of solar energy generation for the City.

The first is an 89 kW ground mounted array at the wastewater treatment plant. The second is a 100 kW ground mounted array for the Broomfield Detention Center. The array runs across a hilltop with highly variable terrain and very high wind speeds.

The Boulders is an environmentally friendly apartment complex located in Boulder, CO. In the summer of 2010, Bella Energy helped install 99 kW of solar energy systems across 9 buildings. Combined these systems help lower the carbon footprint of their operations by over 225,000 pounds per year. Thanks to Bella Energy’s commercial solar installation, The Boulders powers much of their outdoor lighting and clubhouse facility with free, clean, renewable energy.

In addition to bolstering their environmental branding, the commercial solar pv system also provides significant financial savings to the property owners. This helps keeps costs low and prices attractive in the highly competitive Boulder rental industry. As one of the leading sustainable universities in the nation, Colorado State University (CSU) is committed to utilizing renewable energy to power their operations and reduce operating costs. In June of 2009, Bella Energy completed a prominent solar array on the Engineering Building of CSU’s Fort Collins campus.

The new solar energy system was installed to provide students, faculty and visitors with an eye-catching view of renewable energy in action, and to reduce CSU’s environmental footprint. The system can be seen from the central campus plaza and is positioned near the Lory Student Center. Funding for the project was provided in part through a grant from the Governor’s Energy Office.

The design called for a highly technical installation, utilizing a custom racking system that was craned into position during installation. Funding requirements and campus activities required a timely installation, so as not to disturb students. However, the Bella Energy team rose to the challenge and completed the complex and beautiful installation in only five days.

Bella Energy’s resulting 18.9 kW solar energy system provides over 25,000 kWh of clean energy per year, and will reduce the annual carbon footprint of the Engineering Building by over 51,000 lbs of CO2. CSU’s new solar system provides an aesthetically pleasing and highly visual integration of solar energy into the CSU campus environment. The visibility of the design also helps demonstrate their commitment to renewable and sustainable energy, while providing a learning experience for the students.

The 9.8kW system was installed to offset a portion of Ductworks’ total electrical usage. The new solar system, coupled with lighting upgrades, has reduced electrical energy costs by approximately 50 percent. By installing the new solar system, Ductowrks was able to take advantage of critical tax credits and simultaneously lower long term operating costs.

When Eco-Products moved into their new office facility, they sought to continue their long standing commitment to sustainability and diversify their company’s assets by investing n a solar energy system. Working with Bella Energy, Eco-Products was able to implement a 49kW solar system that covers approximately 50 percent of their building’s energy cost. Further financial benefits are expected through depreciation of the solar system and realizing the tax benefits provided in the Federal Investment Tax Credit. The Bella Energy solar system delivered a significant reduction in Eco-Products’ environmental footprint as well as a boost to their bottom line.

Boulder County and Bella Energy have installed a 200kW solar electric systems on the Justice Center at 1777 6th Street, Boulder.

The project was financed using an innovative financial partnership with Conergy Finance Program that maximizes the County’s return on investment and minimizes up-front costs. Bella Energy designed and installed the systems.

Total energy production will be approximately 280,000 kilowatt hours per year, covering 15% of the building’s energy. A Fat Spaniel computer-based monitoring system will track energy production and consumption data, accessible to the public over the internet.

One third of the solar panels are ballasted at a 10degree tilt. The remaining two thirds are solar arrays mounted into the roof structure and tilted at a more efficient 30 degree. The system is made up of 673 Schott 300-watt commercial panels and 30 inverters.

Lt. Gov. Barbara O’Brien today announced the continued greening of the Colorado’s State Capitol with the installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the historical building.

“Today’s installation shows that Colorado state government is leading by example in the creation of Colorado’s New Energy Economy,” said Lt. Gov. O’Brien. “This is good news when you consider the current economic climate. We’re not only saving the state money, but we’re taking another step to protect our planet.”

Bella Energy will install a 10kW PV system on the Capitol. The power created by the PV system is enough to power two homes, and will be consumed within the Capitol building. In addition, it will study the efficiency of west-facing PV panels as compared to more traditional south-facing PV panels, as both will be installed in the same site.

“The Capitol PV system is designed to be both an educational tool and a demonstration program to teach Capitol visitors about the benefits of solar power,” says O’Brien.

Once completed, plans call for visitors to the Capitol to be able to monitor the activity of the PV system in real time via a computer monitor that will be located in “Mr. Brown’s Attic,” the museum display located in the Capitol’s dome. The monitoring system will track the panels’ electric generation activity, along with the activity of the two other renewable energy systems at the Governor’s residence. The monitoring system is being provided Bella Energy.
