We are writing to alert you about a potentially serious problem that Colorado solar customers are experiencing. In some neighborhoods, squirrels nest under solar panels and chew through the wires underneath, causing damage to the panels and entire system.

Squirrel-menaced customers have called us in the past few weeks, so we want to reach out and let you know of this issue immediately. The system manufacturers tell us the problem is unique to Colorado!

To limit squirrels (and problem pigeons) access to the system wires, Bella Energy can install a wire mesh around outside of the system. If you have squirrels around your home, we highly recommend installing a wire mesh right away.

The animal deterrent system costs $100 per kilowatt (rounded up), but is much less costly than repairs and mitigation could be later. If you do have squirrels and have had a drop in production or error messages on your inverter do not go up on your roof to check for yourself! That’s not safe! PLEASE CALL US RIGHT AWAY.
