OUR PEOPLE Vice President

Andrew is an Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Manager (CEM) with a broad background in renewable energy and energy conservation technologies, including PV certification from CoSEIA. Andrew has first- hand experience with solar energy and co-generation systems, weatherization techniques, and commercial and industrial energy auditing, monitoring, and conservation measures, particularly with regard to large scale cooling and refrigeration equipment and related mechanical systems. Andrew has expertise in data acquisition and analysis for the purpose of determining the benefits of energy conservation measures proposed or implemented. In June 2005, Andrew joined Bella Energy as Director of 5010 Solutions, a Bella Energy business venture to develop and implement third-party financed solar electric systems for governments and non-profit organizations. Our first municipal projects were installed in late winter of 2005-2007.

Colorado Connections: Andrew’s family has Colorado roots that extend all the way back to World War I. The McKenna family owned the Wolf Tongue mine in Nederland during 1916-1919. Andrew’s grandfather purchased property – the Silver Spruce Ranch along Peak-to-Peak Highway – in 1957, and the family has enjoyed coming to Colorado during the summers ever since then. Two of Andrew’s great uncles were also involved with the mine, and later went on to be principals in the First National Bank of Boulder – later Bank One, and now Chase Bank. One of Andrew’s great aunts saw a need for a women’s dormitory at CU-Boulder and donated the money for what is now the McKenna Languages Building. At the time, a young woman could not attend college if she wasn’t married or did not live with her parents, as there was no “proper” place for them to live.

During Andrew’s youth, much of his father’s work as a professional paleontologist for the American Museum of Natural History in New York was centered on field research in Northern Colorado and Wyoming, so the ranch served as a home port and staging ground for his dad’s many trips throughout the west. Andrew and his wife Jacquie live in Boulder with their two daughters, Juliana and Alexandra. Jacquie works for Econergy International in Boulder, managing the Clean Tech Fund for them that invests in clean energy projects in Central and South America. Boulder has become the locus of Andrew’s extended family, as both of his parents are retired and living in Boulder, as are Andrew’s brother and his family. Additionally, Andrew’s sister-in-law and family and his mother-in-law live in Boulder.
